Infovis through new ideas and experiments

Browsing the infovis feeds collected during these years, I spent a bit of time in exploring the interesting solutions proposed by Moritz Stefaner ( we talked with him some monthes ago ).

Among others, I think that elastic lists are very interesting solutions to display multi-facetted data structures, because they offer 5 key added values:

– visualizes proportions among the same data using ListItem height ( width is the same for all )
– visualizes meta data properties using brightness

– uses transitions and animated filters to let the user more conscious about his filtering task

– integrates sparlines to give an overview

– simple to use

The demo is available online ( as some screenshots ) and Moritz wrote about them on his blog, so I suggest to start reading more and exploring it.

Another solutions by Moritz it’s tag-maps that is a new way of exploring folksonomy having in mind the TIME factor ( actual tag-coluds ignore it ) and also the relations among TAGs ( another interesting solution to search among related TAGs is the interactive search header adopted by Christian Giordano on his blog ).

An interesting common fact is also that once more ActionScript solution have been adopted to create new web based infovis tools.
